Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative CAD Designer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating precise and detailed computer-aided design (CAD) models, drawings, and schematics that support the development of mechanical systems and product designs. Your expertise will help translate conceptual ideas into technical blueprints, ensuring adherence to industry standards and project specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex system designs, utilizing advanced CAD software and mechanical engineering principles to drive project success.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D CAD drawings and 3D models for mechanical systems, components, and assemblies using industry-standard CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, MicroStation, Revit, NavisWorks, Bluebeam, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
- Create piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), schematics, and technical documentation to support system design and construction activities.
- Collaborate with engineers and project teams to interpret design requirements, specifications, and applicable codes such as ASME standards.
- Conduct mechanical drafting for system layouts, assembly instructions, and fabrication drawings while ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Utilize GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to communicate precise manufacturing tolerances on drawings.
- Assist in the review of CAD models for structural integrity using finite element analysis (FEA) when required.
- Maintain organized CAD documentation within PDM (Product Data Management) software systems for easy access and version control.
- Support technical writing efforts by preparing detailed reports, assembly instructions, and design change notices.
- Participate in design reviews, providing constructive feedback to improve model quality and manufacturability.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical drafting and 2D CAD drafting within engineering or construction environments.
- Strong proficiency with CAD software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, MicroStation, Revit, NavisWorks, Bluebeam, and BIM tools.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling for product design as well as system design applications such as piping layouts or P&IDs.
- Knowledge of GD&T principles and ASME codes & standards applicable to mechanical systems.
- Experience with construction or manufacturing projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications accurately.
- Mechanical knowledge combined with experience in technical writing or documentation is a plus.
- Understanding of FEA analysis techniques for assessing structural integrity of designs is advantageous.
This role is ideal for a motivated professional eager to apply their CAD expertise in a collaborative environment that values innovation and precision. Join us in shaping the future of mechanical system design through cutting-edge technology!
