Remote Part-Time Optical Assistant (Bilingual Spanish/English)

About the Position

W. Optical is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and experienced Remote Part-Time Optical Assistant to support our optical locations with lab order processing, vision insurance billing, and patient scheduling.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of optical industry experience, understands the optical order process, and is comfortable working with multiple optical laboratories and vision insurance providers. This position requires fluency in both Spanish and English, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Optical Lab Orders: Enter, submit, and track eyeglass orders with various optical laboratories.
• Vision Insurance Billing: Process and submit vision insurance claims, verify benefits, and assist with billing for providers such as VSP, EyeMed, and other vision insurance plans.
• Patient Scheduling: Answer incoming phone calls during scheduled business hours and book, confirm, and reschedule appointments.
• Customer Service: Communicate professionally with patients, optical staff, insurance providers, and laboratories in both Spanish and English.
• Order Accuracy: Review prescriptions, lens specifications, frame details, and insurance information for accuracy before submitting orders.
• Follow-Up: Help resolve lab order issues, billing discrepancies, rejected claims, and scheduling questions.
• Administrative Support: Maintain accurate patient records and complete other optical administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of optical industry experience.
• Fluent in both Spanish and English, including speaking and communicating professionally with patients.
• Previous experience entering eyeglass orders into optical laboratory systems.
• Working knowledge of vision insurance billing, including VSP, EyeMed, or similar providers.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling prescriptions, orders, and insurance claims.
• Excellent telephone etiquette and customer service skills.
• Reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace.
• Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage multiple tasks remotely.
• Dependable attendance and availability during agreed-upon business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with multiple optical laboratories and lab ordering platforms.
• Experience with optical practice management or point-of-sale software.
• Familiarity with vision insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and claim submissions.
• Experience scheduling optometry appointments.

Schedule

This is a part-time, fully remote position. The schedule and weekly hours will be agreed upon with the selected candidate. The employee must be available to answer phones and support our optical locations during assigned business hours.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 25.0 per week
