Job Description

INTERMEDIATE INTERIOR DESIGNER

We’re looking for an in-house interior designer that is genuinely excited about design, health and wellness. If you’re highly creative, a little obsessive about the details (in the best way), and naturally curious – and you care about doing great work while believing balance matters just as much as the work itself – we would love to have you on our team!

ABOUT THE FIRM

Mokume Design Studio is a boutique interior design studio rooted in wellness. Our work primarily focuses on hospitality and residential environments that wish to incorporate health + well-being into their space. The studio’s work is highly intentional – balancing creativity with technical rigor and supported by a small, close-knit team that values collaboration, trust, and long-term relationships.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This team member will work closely with the Principal and Lead Designer and is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision, follow-through, and creating executable design concepts. They will support drafting, documentation, and execution across residential and hospitality projects.

While production and documentation are foundational to the role, the role includes additional responsibilities such as finish + fixture selection, furniture, design work, project ownership, and client interaction depending on experience, interest, and workload. This is a new role created to support the studio’s continued growth.

This position is 32-40 hours/week. We strongly prefer an on-site presence, as collaboration and productivity are so much more synergistic in person, with flexibility to WFH one day a week.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Produce and maintain detailed AutoCAD construction drawing sets, including plans (floor, reflected ceiling, furniture + finish plans), interior elevations, schedules and details.
  • Support finish, material and fixture selections as well as furniture + decorative lighting selections in collaboration with the Principal and Lead Designer.
  • Assist with design development and documentation across residential and hospitality projects.
  • Maintain organized project files, drawings, and specifications.
  • Participate in a collaborative, open-book studio environment with shared accountability.
  • Supporting FF&E sourcing and specifications, including materials, finishes, lighting and furnishings.
  • Client-facing involvement, such as participating in select meetings, presentations, and on-going communication as appropriate.
  • Assisting with or leading design development on certain projects, with guidance from the Principal.
  • Participating in site visits, coordination meetings, and installations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4–7 years (or more) of professional interior design or architectural experience
  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency, with experience producing detailed construction drawing sets
  • Proficiency with InDesign and Photoshop
  • Comfort working on a Mac-based systems
  • Familiarity with Morpholio (bonus)
  • Strong internal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Background in architecture or close collaboration with architects
  • Experience in both residential and hospitality environments is ideal

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience; $82-100k annually based on full-time employment with a 6 month evaluation to review salary
  • Flexible time off and generous studio closures (including the week of July 4th and year-end holidays)
  • 75% of health insurance plan coverage + 100% of vision and dental plan
  • Retirement savings option through CalSavers (and soon through Charles Schwab)
  • A supportive, wellness-oriented studio culture that respects personal time
  • Small, thoughtful perks along the way (like team matcha or coffee runs) as a token of appreciation
