Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled Newspaper Designer & Production Specialist who can independently handle the complete newspaper design and layout process using QuarkXPress. The candidate must be able to recreate a newspaper layout based on a reference PDF, accurately matching its typography, fonts, headlines, columns, spacing, images, and overall visual structure.

The ideal candidate should be capable of taking the project from the initial reference file to the final, print-ready newspaper without requiring constant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze the reference newspaper PDF and identify its typography, font styles, font sizes, column structure, margins, spacing, and page dimensions.

Recreate the newspaper layout as closely as possible to the original reference.

Design and format all newspaper pages using QuarkXPress.

Arrange articles, headlines, subheadings, images, advertisements, captions, and other content.

Maintain consistency in typography, alignment, page numbering, and overall newspaper styling.

Ensure proper text flow, image placement, and page composition across all pages.

Review the completed newspaper for formatting errors, missing content, alignment issues, and other inconsistencies.

Deliver the complete newspaper in a high-quality, print-ready PDF format.

Provide the editable QuarkXPress project files along with any necessary linked assets and font information.

Required Skills

Strong experience in newspaper design, editorial layout, typesetting, and pagination.

Proficiency in QuarkXPress.

Good understanding of typography, font identification, column grids, page composition, and print production.

Ability to analyze and accurately reproduce an existing newspaper design from a PDF reference.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to manage the complete project independently, from layout creation to final delivery.

Expected Deliverables

Complete newspaper layout matching the supplied reference PDF.

Final print-ready PDF containing all required pages.

Editable QuarkXPress project files.

All necessary linked images and supporting assets.

Final quality-checked files ready for printing or publication.
