About ArtDaily

ArtDaily.com is a long-established international online newspaper covering art, museums, exhibitions, auctions, architecture, photography, archaeology, and the global art market.

Our website has operated for more than 20 years and currently uses a legacy ASP-based publishing system.

We are seeking a talented independent software developer to help us build a modern replacement for our website’s backend and editorial publishing platform.

This is primarily a software development and backend modernization project, not a visual redesign.

The existing public-facing ArtDaily design should remain substantially unchanged.

Project Responsibilities

Develop a modern content management system that allows editors to create and manage articles, including:

• Headlines and subheadlines
• Article text and formatting
• Main and additional images
• Image captions and photo credits
• Categories and author/source information
• Publication dates and scheduling
• Homepage placement
• SEO information
• Sponsored/promoted content identification

Editors must be able to create, edit, preview, schedule, publish, unpublish, and search articles through a user-friendly administrative interface.

The project also involves migrating ArtDaily’s historical content while preserving existing article URLs wherever possible.

Technical Requirements

Experience with several of the following is desirable:

• Backend web development
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server)
• Content management systems
• APIs and data migration
• Modern JavaScript/TypeScript or Python
• Cloud hosting (AWS, Azure, or similar)
• CDN, caching, and website performance
• Cloudflare or comparable security solutions
• Backups and disaster recovery
• Git version control, testing, and documentation

We are open to different modern technology stacks, including Python/Django, Node.js/TypeScript, modern .NET, PHP/Laravel, or established CMS frameworks.

Ideal Candidate

We welcome experienced independent developers, talented recent graduates, and advanced computer science students.

We value demonstrated technical ability more than years of employment.

Candidates should be able to show real software projects they have built, explain technical decisions, and work independently.

Experience with legacy systems, content migration, or digital publishing is particularly valuable.
