About The Role We are seeking a talented UX/UI Designer to join our dynamic team working on high-impact projects within the Digital Innovation & Integration Service Capability (DIISC) at Arcarithm. This role is pivotal in developing user-centered interfaces for data-heavy analytics applications used by NASA’s aeronautics community. As the founding UX/UI Designer on the team, you will have the unique opportunity to build the design practice from the ground up, establishing foundational elements such as design systems, user personas, and research methodologies. Your primary focus will be on creating intuitive, visually compelling, and highly functional interfaces, including dashboards, data tables, charts, and complex data exploration workflows—that transform technical data into accessible insights for diverse users. This position offers the flexibility of remote work and the chance to collaborate with top-tier engineers, data scientists, analysts, and program staff on innovative projects that push the boundaries of technology and data visualization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in UX/UI design.
- Extensive portfolio demonstrating experience designing data-heavy, analytics-focused products such as dashboards, data tables, charts, and data visualization workflows.
- Proficiency in Figma for designing and prototyping interfaces.
- Proven experience in creating a comprehensive design system from scratch, including components, patterns, standards, and documentation.
- Experience defining user personas and conducting user research to inform design decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently own and justify design choices.
- Ability to interpret and work with complex data structures, with enough data literacy to design effective interfaces without being a data analyst or scientist.
- Willingness to learn and understand technical or scientific domain concepts and constraints.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive design system from inception, establishing reusable components, patterns, and standards for the team’s UI.
- Define and develop user personas, plan and execute user research, and translate findings into actionable design decisions.
- Create high-fidelity prototypes and production-ready designs for analytics applications, including dashboards, data tables, charts, and complex data workflows.
- Design clear, effective data visualizations that make complex technical data accessible and understandable for diverse audiences.
- Produce user flows, wireframes, and other UX deliverables to guide the development process and enhance user experience.
- Present and defend design concepts and decisions to team members and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Establish and uphold design standards, processes, and tooling to ensure high-quality user experiences across applications.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, analysts, and program staff to translate requirements into intuitive and effective software solutions.
