Job Description

We’re hiring: Compliance Manager

**Optio Group London / HYBRID Full time, 35 hours per week**

We’re looking for an experienced compliance professional who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with the business and helping a growing international insurance group maintain effective controls.

You’ll manage a varied portfolio of compliance work, covering monitoring reviews, product governance and fair value, SM&CR, regulatory applications, TOBAs and regulatory change.

You’ll also coordinate and line manage our two compliance administrators, setting priorities, allocating work, providing guidance and checking the quality and timeliness of delivery.

Working for the Head of Compliance, you’ll have scope to improve processes, support business change and take on broader responsibilities as the Group develops.

Role Definition

The Compliance Manager will take responsibility for allocated compliance activities, monitoring reviews and projects across Optio Group, supporting the Head of Compliance in maintaining effective controls and meeting regulatory obligations.

The Compliance Manager will provide practical compliance advice and challenge to the business, embed regulatory and conduct changes into policies, procedures and controls, and carry out ongoing assurance work. The role includes day-to-day line management of two compliance administrators.

What we’re looking for

  • Around five years’ relevant insurance compliance experience, ideally in an MGA, broker or Lloyd’s/London Market business.
  • Good working knowledge of FCA and Lloyd’s requirements, including product governance, Consumer Duty and SM&CR.
  • Experience of compliance monitoring, assessing incidents and following actions through to completion.
  • Experience of supervising colleagues or coordinating outsourced resources.
  • Sound judgement, clear communication and the confidence to provide constructive challenge.

A relevant insurance or compliance qualification, or equivalent practical experience, would be valuable.

Responsibility & Accountability

Reporting to the Head of Compliance, take ownership of the following activities within agreed responsibilities and escalation thresholds:

  • Manage and oversee the TOBA process;
  • Coordinate the compliance administrators, allocate work, set priorities and monitor capacity, turnaround times and agreed service standards;
  • Maintain clear procedures and escalation routes for delegated tasks, provide training and guidance, and carry out proportionate quality checks;
  • Provide feedback on delegated work, address recurring errors and escalate issues to the Head of Compliance;
  • Maintain CPD reporting in line with regulatory requirements;
  • Lead allocated reviews under the Compliance Monitoring Plan, document findings, agree actions with the business and track remediation through to completion;
  • Assess incidents and potential breaches, recommend corrective action and escalate material matters to the Head of Compliance for review and decisions on any required notifications;
  • Completion of Optio’s BAU obligations under the SM&CR, including any required FCA applications;
  • Complete regulatory returns, inspections and carrier and Lloyd’s audits, coordinating information requests and maintaining supporting evidence;
  • Review compliance management information, including delegated activity, quality, outstanding actions and recurring issues requiring management attention;
  • Support compliance input into new products, acquisitions, systems and changes to operating arrangements, working with relevant business and local compliance colleagues;
  • Day to day operation of the Product Governance strategy and framework;
  • Assess and implement relevant regulatory and legislative changes through policies, procedures and controls, including FCA and Lloyd’s requirements;
  • Where required, assisting with reviewing and responding to complaints, making sure all communications sent are in accordance with relevant deadlines and contain the appropriate wording;
  • Take on additional compliance activities and projects agreed with the Head of Compliance as business needs develop.

If you’re ready for a role with greater ownership and responsibility, we’d like to hear from you.
