PROJECT ENGINEER / ASSISTANT PM

Job Description Assistant PM focusing on control systems for the commercial and government construction markets. This is a local position based in San Diego, CA, working under our Senior Project Managers and taking on some of the day-to-day management of active projects, including regular visits to job sites.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Review contract drawings and specifications to generate RFIs.
• Track submittals and RFIs and communicate with customers to ensure prompt responses.
• Review HVAC controls shop drawings and submittals for conformance to the plans and specifications.
• Identify scope changes and generate, price, and track change orders.
• Make regular job site visits to monitor progress and resolve field issues.
• Attend job site and coordination meetings with general contractors and other trades.
• Coordinate subcontractors, field staff, and our remote engineering team to keep projects on schedule.
• Track project schedules, material orders, and deliveries.
• Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, as-builts, and O&M documentation.
• Support the Senior Project Managers in all aspects of the project life cycle.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience as a BMS technician, programmer or design engineer.
• Experience reading and understanding mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Basic understanding of commercial and government construction processes.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with construction project documentation (RFIs, submittals, change orders).
• Ability to travel to local job sites regularly.
• Valid drivers license.
• Ability to travel to remote job sites for 1-2 days at a time as needed.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a project team.
• Ability to work on strict deadlines without supervision.
• Excellent communication skills.
