About the opportunity

Accelerated Global Logistics is a U.S.-based international freight forwarder with a strong focus on perishables. We are hiring a hands-on software developer to build and maintain applications that improve how our customers and employees plan, request, and manage freight services.

Your first major project will be Astrolabe by AGL: a public ocean-schedule search application that connects customers with shipping options and directs quote requests to the appropriate AGL team.

You will work directly with ownership and operations staff, translating real freight workflows into reliable, practical software.

Your first project

Build a responsive application that allows visitors to:

• Search ocean sailings from U.S. container ports to worldwide destinations using IQAX BigSchedules.
• Compare carriers, vessels, voyages, departures, arrivals, transit times, direct services, transshipment connections, and available cutoffs.
• Request a quote with their selected sailing details automatically included.
• Submit commodity, cargo-ready date, container requirements, and temperature requirements.
• Have enquiries routed to the appropriate AGL team, whether they are new prospects or existing clients.

The application should follow AGL’s maritime heritage design direction: refined typography, navy, ivory, brass, and historic shipping imagery paired with a clear, modern interface.

Responsibilities

• Validate third-party API capabilities, data quality, usage limits, and integration requirements before implementation.
• Develop and maintain frontend interfaces, backend services, and necessary databases.
• Build configurable enquiry routing, email acknowledgements, and delivery-failure handling.
• Deploy and operate applications in AGL-controlled hosting, preferably Azure.
• Protect API credentials and customer information through appropriate access controls and secure development practices.
• Implement useful monitoring, error handling, backups, and recovery procedures.
• Test critical workflows and resolve production defects.
• Maintain source code, deployment instructions, and technical documentation in AGL-owned systems.
• Work with freight operations staff to define requirements and prioritize improvements.
• Support future integrations with AGL’s Microsoft 365 environment and other business systems as approved.

Required qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to independently build, deploy, and maintain production web applications.
• Strong frontend development skills, including responsive layouts and accessible forms.
• Backend development experience, including REST APIs, authentication, validation, and secure credential management.
• Experience with relational databases and practical data modeling.
• Experience integrating external services and handling incomplete data, rate limits, and service failures.
• Familiarity with cloud hosting, Git, deployment workflows, logging, and monitoring.
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to nontechnical colleagues.
• Good judgment about scope, costs, maintainability, and when to seek specialist assistance.

A degree is welcome but not required. Demonstrated work and the ability to deliver matter most.

Preferred experience

• Freight forwarding, ocean shipping, transportation, or logistics software.
• Azure and Microsoft 365 integrations.
• Email delivery and workflow automation.
• Customer-facing search applications or business portals.
• Translating an established visual concept into a polished working interface.

What success looks like

Initially, you will validate the schedule provider, identify coverage limitations, and establish the application architecture and delivery plan.

You will then deliver a working Astrolabe application with accurate presentation of provider data, reliable enquiry routing, and documented deployment and support procedures.

Over time, you will help AGL expand its software capabilities through prioritized improvements grounded in customer and operational needs.
