Director AI Engineering (Remote Eligible)

For our client, we are seeking a Director AI Engineering (Remote Eligible) to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This leader will guide the strategy and execution of foundational AI engineering efforts that support innovative products and scalable internal capabilities. The role will partner closely with product, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to shape technical direction, evaluate solution options, and ensure reliable delivery of high-impact AI systems. The ideal candidate will also help build a strong team culture while advancing the long-term vision for AI infrastructure and platform performance.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $244,700 – $279,200 annually

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative AI products
• Oversee the design, development, and operation of core AI platform systems
• Make strategic build-vs-buy decisions for AI technologies
• Introduce advanced techniques to improve the scalability and reliability of training processes
• Manage GPU capacity planning and cost governance effectively
• Contribute to the long-term technical vision for foundational AI systems
• Foster a culture of learning and professional development within the team

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with significant experience in AI/ML development
• 8+ years of experience in AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or 6+ years with a Master’s degree
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams
• 5+ years of experience managing an engineering team preferred
• 7+ years building large-scale ML or GPU training infrastructure on cloud platforms preferred
• Hands-on experience with distributed training and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, C++, or CUDA preferred
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex AI concepts
