Job Description
Location: Flexible – United States, Singapore or elsewhere in Asia-Pacific | Remote with periodic travel
About the opportunity
A listed AI infrastructure company is building large-scale AI data centre capacity in Asia Pacific and has formed a Project Governance Committee to oversee its capital program. The committee is a sub-committee of the Board, and its minutes and reports go directly to the Board.
The committee already has a Board Chair, the Chief Operating Officer and an independent member with major-project delivery experience. We are looking for a second independent member who brings deep, hands-on AI data centre experience: someone who has built, commissioned, operated and maintained these facilities.
The committee will cover the company’s Asia Pacific projects, and may extend to its European projects.
The role
This is a hands-on governance role. You will provide expert advice to the project leadership team. That means engaging with the real detail of delivery and operations, including:
- How the network architecture comes together, and where integration and control issues arise
- Commissioning, start-up and early-life teething issues, and how to resolve them
- How AI compute environments are run day to day: power density, cooling plant, controls, grid and network interfaces, and cyber risk
- Operational and construction risk, contractor performance, supply chain and workforce capability
- Reviewing and endorsing budgets, schedules, and major scope and cost variations on behalf of the Board
- Reviewing commissioning reports, technical assurance findings and EPC/contracting arrangements
Time commitment: monthly project reviews with the leadership team, a monthly internal committee meeting, and occasional ad-hoc sessions. Meetings can be attended remotely, with no requirement for site attendance. Site attendance may happen at some stage.
About you
- 25+ years in data centre infrastructure, with significant time inside a data centre business, building, commissioning and operating facilities (not only advising them)
- Direct exposure to AI/high-density or hyperscale data centre environments
- Senior operational or delivery leadership, ideally including major programs (US$1B+)
- Comfortable reading commissioning reports, technical audits and EPC contracts, and challenging delivery teams constructively
- Board, advisory or committee experience is valued but not essential
- Available for a part-time, non-executive commitment. This role would suit someone in a portfolio or board career, or recently stepped back from an executive role.
Remuneration: Competitive, commensurate with a non-executive committee appointment, which will include equity alignment.
