Job Description
We are seeking an experienced CAD Surface Modeler to complete the design of a window flare/pop-out for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. The project requires both high-quality A-side (Class-A) surface modeling and complete B-side modeling suitable for fiberglass mold production.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with automotive/industrial surface modeling and an understanding of real-world manufacturing requirements.
Scope of Work:
- Complete the A-side/Class-A surface of the window flare based on the provided design/reference.
- Develop the corresponding B-side geometry, including appropriate wall thickness, transitions, flanges, and mold/manufacturing considerations.
- Ensure the A-side and B-side are properly aligned and fully defined.
- Prepare the final CAD geometry to be directly usable by our fiberglass manufacturer for mold creation.
- Incorporate appropriate draft, edge conditions, parting/mold considerations, and manufacturability where required.
- Provide clean, organized, production-ready CAD files.
Preferred Software:
- Autodesk Alias
- SolidWorks
- Fusion 360
- Rhino or similar professional CAD/surface-modeling software
Ideal Experience:
- Class-A automotive surface modeling
- Automotive body/exterior components
- Reverse engineering or modeling from vehicle geometry
- Fiberglass/composite part design
- Mold and tooling considerations
- Understanding of manufacturing limitations and practical part construction
Deliverables:
- Completed A-side/Class-A surface
- Completed B-side model
- Production-ready CAD geometry suitable for fiberglass mold development
- Native CAD files plus STEP/IGES or other agreed neutral formats
- Final geometry that has been checked for gaps, bad surfaces, open edges, and other issues that could prevent the manufacturer from creating the mold
Project: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter window flare/pop-out Engagement: Contract / project-based Priority: Experience with automotive Class-A surfacing and manufacturing-ready composite geometry is highly preferred.
