Structural Engineer (Georgia PE) - Commercial Steel Building. Design + Seal

Overview

MN+A (Miles Newton + Architects) is an Atlanta-based architecture, interiors and design-build studio working across commercial and residential projects. We’re looking for a Georgia-licensed structural engineer to design and seal a ground-up commercial steel building. We’d like this to become an ongoing working relationship.

The project
A new conventional steel building of about 7,700 SF, made up of:

• A clear-span warehouse (about 64 x 66 ft) with a 3:12 gable roof and a ridge skylight band
• A two-story office block with an occupied rooftop terrace, planters and a pergola
• Small truck loading inside the warehouse, forklifts and pallet racking on the slab
• Light-gauge steel upper floor on steel beams (no concrete topping)

What we already have

• Developed architectural plans, elevations, roof plan and RCP (CAD available)
• A detailed building use brief setting out loads, uses and design priorities
• A previous structural draft and calcs, for reference only (the design is starting fresh)
• Review notes from a prior engineering review
• Geotechnical report expected shortly

What we need

• Structural design under the 2024 IBC with Georgia Amendments and ASCE 7-22
• A short framing and lateral system concept up front, worked through together with our team
• Foundations, slab on grade, steel framing, connections and details
• Calculations, sealed permit drawings and a statement of special inspections
• Responses to county plan review comments
• Construction phase support (shop drawings, RFIs), priced separately

How we work
This is a collaborative process. We want an engineer who will help us shape the most economical structural system for how the building will actually be used, without over-engineering it. Drafting can be done by you or your team.

Timeline
Permit-ready, sealed documents within 3 weeks of kickoff.

Long-term opportunity
We expect 3 to 4 commercial projects a year of similar scope and are looking for an engineer to grow with us.

Requirements

• Active Georgia PE license
• Experience designing and sealing commercial steel buildings
• Working knowledge of the 2024 IBC / ASCE 7-22
• Ability to meet a 3-week turnaround
