Job Description
Data Engineer — API, Web Services & Integrations — Full-Time Remote Contract with a U.S. Company
(Variants: Integration Engineer • API Integration Engineer • Data Integration Engineer • EDI Integration Specialist • Technical Data Analyst)
Another remote technology opportunity from Kevin M. Downey…
Are you strong with APIs, SQL, data, and troubleshooting — and want full-time, long-term work with a U.S. company from home? We are looking for a technically skilled and detail-oriented Data Engineer to support and expand integration connections for a U.S.-based logistics and retail SaaS company.
You’ll work hands-on with APIs, web services, file-based integrations, data mappings, databases, and transaction flows connecting retailers, warehouses, vendors, and trading partners. You’ll analyze technical specifications, build and maintain integrations, test transactions, investigate failures, and figure out why data isn’t moving the way it should.
This is not primarily a project management role. You’ll be the technical person working inside the integrations — analyzing the data, finding the problem, and helping make the connection work.
You’ll receive training on the client’s integration tools, including mapping software used for file-based translations and web portal tools used for web service integrations.
The Highlights
- Full-Time, Long-Term Remote Contract Role with a U.S. Company
- Work From Home Doing Hands-On API and Data Integration Work
- Engaged as a Full-Time Independent Contractor
- Work with APIs, SQL, Python, Postman, XML, JSON, CSV, ETL/ELT, and Data Mapping
- Solve Real Integration Problems Across Retailers, Warehouses, and Trading Partners
- Ongoing Training and Professional Development
- Long-Term Stability and Growth Opportunities
- 16 Days PTO + 4 Floating Holidays
The Work
Day to day, you’ll work directly with the systems and data that keep trading partners connected:
- Building and Supporting Integrations — API, Web Service, and File-Based Connections
- Analyzing Technical Specifications — Understanding Retailer, Warehouse, Vendor, and Trading Partner Data Requirements
- Developing and Maintaining Data Maps — Configuring How Information Is Translated and Passed Between Systems
- Testing Integration Flows — Working with Trading Partners to Make Sure Transactions Move Correctly
- Troubleshooting Failed Transactions — Digging Into Errors and Finding Out Exactly What Went Wrong
- Finding Root Causes — Not Just Fixing the Symptom, but Understanding and Correcting the Underlying Integration Issue
- Working With Developers When Needed — Escalating or Collaborating on Issues That Require Advanced Development Support
- Monitoring Data Accuracy and Reliability — Making Sure Integrations Continue Working Correctly
- Documenting Configurations, Tests, and Resolutions — Leaving Clear Records of What Was Built and How Problems Were Solved
The Requirements
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys figuring out how systems communicate with each other. If an API response is wrong, a transaction fails, or two systems disagree about the structure of the data, you should be the kind of person who wants to dig in and find out why.
- Minimum 4 Years of Experience Working with Similar Technologies
- Experience with Data Integrations, APIs, EDI, or File-Based Transactions
- Advanced SQL and Database Knowledge
- Experience Using Postman, Python, and SQL for API Testing or Data Analysis
- Experience with ETL / ELT Processes
- Experience with Data Mapping, Data Transformation, Integration Mapping Tools, or Middleware
- Strong Working Knowledge of XML, JSON, CSV, and Other Structured Data Formats
- Ability to Read and Interpret Technical Integration Specifications
- Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting Skills
- Exceptional Attention to Detail and Data Accuracy
- Comfortable Working Independently While Collaborating with a Remote Technical Team
- Professional, Reliable, and Highly Organized
- Professional Written and Spoken English Fluency
- Available to Work an 8-Hour Shift Between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM EST
- Able to Consistently Maintain an Average of 5–6 Billable Work Hours Per Day
