Job Description
Job Overview:
Are you an expert Shopify Design Specialist with a knack for tailoring distinct user journeys for both B2B trade buyers and B2C consumers?
Our client is seeking a creative lead with at least 3 years of Shopify experience —including Shopify Plus theme customization (Liquid, sections, blocks) and advanced UX/UI design in Figma —to shape the end-to-end look and feel of two high-impact websites. In this hands-on role, you will establish the structural standards, navigation, and page templates that streamline purchasing for safety managers and everyday shoppers alike. If you bring a strong portfolio and a deep understanding of trade purchasing behaviors, this is your opportunity to own and elevate two major ecommerce experiences from the ground up.
Client Overview:
The client is a UK family business supplying PPE, workplace safety products, and workwear across the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence in Europe and beyond.
They sell direct to businesses, through reseller and distribution partners, online, and through marketplaces. Their range includes safety knives, gloves, safety footwear, workwear, hi-vis, eye and respiratory protection, first aid, and spill control, alongside own-brand products and specialist brands. They aim to help businesses work more safely and need websites that reflect that standard.
Schedule:
Part-time, UK Time zone
Responsibilities:
Core Site Design & System Maintenance:
- Design and maintain the Shopify Plus themes, including homepage, navigation, collection pages, product pages, search, cart, and checkout.
- Build a clear site structure and category navigation for a large, technical product range.
- Create and maintain a consistent design system (templates, sections, components, and brand styles) that the web team can build from.
- Ensure both sites work properly on mobile, load quickly, and meet accessibility standards.
- Work with the sales and marketing teams to ensure messaging, written content, and imagery suit each audience.
- Use analytics, heatmaps, and customer feedback to find areas for improvement.
- Test changes (including A/B testing where applicable) and measure the impact.
- Stay updated on Shopify features and apps, recommending impactful enhancements.
B2B Trade Site:
- Design a site built around trade buyer behaviors: quick ordering, reordering, account pricing, bulk quantities, and multiple users per account.
- Make technical information easy to find, including standards (EN ratings), spec sheets, sizing, and compliance details.
- Design clear conversion routes such as requesting samples, booking a site visit, or arranging a product trial.
- Support account features including customer-specific pricing, quotes, order history, and payment on account.
- Design dedicated pages to support reseller partners, such as trade enquiries and partner information.
B2C Consumer Site:
- Design a simple, confident shopping experience for individuals and small teams.
- Craft product page structures around benefits and use cases, not just specifications.
- Streamline the path from browsing to checkout.
- Leverage reviews, trust signals, and clear delivery/returns information to build buyer confidence.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience designing Shopify sites with a strong portfolio.
- Experience with Shopify Plus, including theme customization (Liquid, sections, and blocks).
- Experience designing B2B ecommerce or a clear understanding of trade purchasing behaviors.
- Strong UX and UI skills using Figma or similar design tools.
- A keen eye for how written content, layout, and imagery work together.
- Comfort using analytics tools (Shopify reports, GA4) to drive design decisions.
- Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage workloads remotely and communicate clearly with a UK-based team.
Qualifications:
- Experience with Shopify B2B features (company accounts, price lists, payment terms).
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with system integrations such as inventory management (Cin7 or similar), HubSpot, or Xero.
- Experience managing large product ranges or technical/industrial products.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and site performance optimization.
- Industry experience in PPE, industrial, trade, or B2B distribution.
How Success Will Be Measured (First Year):
