Job Description

Job Introduction

We’re looking for a Communications Assistant to join our team.

You’ll be working closely with the media team as well as our content creators and graphic designers. This role will mainly focus on social media, helping to answer questions, flagging issues to the right people in the organisation, crafting responses relating to many Staffordshire County Council issues, but with a particular focus on highways. This is part of our hard work to ‘Keep Staffordshire Moving’ and to ensure people are kept updated on what’s happening in their area.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role until the end of March 2028. The role is mainly office-based, with the option to work from home where appropriate. You will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week. You will also need to travel to other locations to film, meet with teams, and gather content.

This is a great chance to join an award-winning communications team, work on important projects, and make a real difference to people living and working in Staffordshire.

Main Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Writing content for social media, websites and newsletters
  • Using social media to support campaigns and media work
  • Researching and reviewing campaigns
  • Drafting, checking and sending out campaign materials
  • Creating videos, photos and graphics
  • Posting updates on our website and social media channels
  • Reviewing how well our communications have worked and monitoring media coverage

The Ideal Candidate

Minimum Criteria

  • has a degree, preferably in marketing or a similar subject, or equivalent experience in media, marketing or communications.
  • has the skills and experience to work in a demanding office environment.
  • has experience in media, marketing or communications. This could include paid or voluntary work.
  • has experience of working with the public and people at different levels of an organisation.
  • has experience of supporting projects.
  • Excellent communication skills across different channels, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Flexible, willing to learn and well organised.

Interviews will be held week commencing 26 October 2026.

Don’t feel you meet all the requirements? We value transferable skills, experience and qualifications, so please consider applying. For an informal chat about the role, contact Lara Horsley, Head of Digital Content and Brand, at [email protected] or Gemma Styles, Senior Campaigns Officer, at [email protected]

Our recruitment process: We remove personal details from applications during shortlisting so that we only consider relevant information. Please complete your application in full, especially the supporting statement, to show what you can bring to the role.

Please note: The minimum essential criteria in the ideal section detailed above will be used if you are applying under one of our Interview Guarantee Schemes.
